While neither of them had (or could have) said it in so many words, the Doctor and her TARDIS had a bit of a tiff that lasted several days and landed the former in rather a large number of overly-dangerous situations. It took the Doctor many small repairs she'd been 'meaning' to get around to in order to bring her back into her ship's good graces, but it was worth it. And even though the TARDIS was still refusing to follow the coordinates set, the Doctor suspected this particular side trip was the old girl's way of apologising.

After all, she'd landed on a nice little beach, made even better by the companionship of an ice cream bar. And if you asked her, she deserved a little time without hostile alien takeovers or abnormally large cats.

The Doctor expected another unexpected harrowing adventure when they arrived, as this was how things often went - what he found, however, was a beach. Peri was ecstatic, of course, though he remained wary.

Of course, Lanzarote hadn't turned out to be a very relaxing holiday; perhaps the TARDIS wanted to give him some peace and quiet for once.

That decided, he gave Peri a decent amount of currency and told her to stay out of trouble - after strapping a communicator to her belt, of course.

Then he set off for a leisurely walk - for him, the idea was really quite exhilerating.

The Doctor was quite happy to to leave his companion for the moment; Romana was spend an excessive amount of time on her thesis and he helped as much as he could tolerate. Eventually, he'd grown stifled by the academia of it all, and couldn't have been more pleased when TARDIS landed him somewhere pleasant.

The old girl always did have remarkable insight. He stroked the console fondly before exiting the TARDIS, having informed Romana he would be strolling about for a bit.

He would have taken K-9, but the boardwalk didn't seem particularly conducive to the robot's frame.

Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he strolled along the boardwalk happily, sniffing the salty air. It was then that he glimpsed a rather familiar face. His fifth self.

"Hello, Doctor," he smiled politely.

Due to a very good reason (namely, she was walking a ways ahead of them), she hadn't actually noticed her selves- either of them- until she heard her Fourth self address her. She spun around to face him, a return greeting already past her lips before she realised her Fourth hadn't been talking to her.

Still, what was done was done. He'd hear it or he wouldn't, and either way she had a delicious chocolate ice cream bar, so it was all right.

The Doctor stopped abruptly, his eyes wide as they rested on his former self. Well. This was unexpected.

"Ah, hello." He smiled in return, slipping a hand into his pocket - somehow his fingers brushing against the cricket ball always made him feel better. Confident. He did save the world with it that one time.

"Taking a holiday?" Do please be taking a holiday.

It was then that he registered that he hadn't been the only one who'd answered; his brow furrowed slightly as he turned.

The Doctor had been about to respond with a jovial, 'Yes, I am indeed taking a holiday,' but was stalled when his attention was diverted as he glimpsed his eleventh self.

Three Doctors. Either they were all taking a holiday at once, or there was some sort of trouble afoot that he'd yet to sniff out.

Still, he smiled at both of his incarnations. "Hello, Doctors. How splendid that we all happen to be here at the same time. However, that leads me to wonder whether there's a particular reason for it."

"None that I know of," she said, hoping that the cold wet trickle on her chin wasn't her chocolate ice cream. Terribly embarrassing way to meet up with your past incarnations.

The Doctor shook his head, smiling faintly.

"I came here to relax, I've no idea if..." He trailed off, and his smile widened.

"I think you need a napkin, Doctor."

The Doctor, now standing between his other two incarnations, was practically beaming. And for no reason, though he rarely needed a reason. He often smiled at the most inopportune moments.

Fortuitously, he removed a kerchief from his pocket and held it out for his eleventh self.

"Shall I?" He asked.

"Perhaps it's just a coincidence?" she suggested optimistically. Those things do happen, probably.

Then, with a return beam to her Fourth self, "Yes, thank you."

The Doctor raised his eyebrows.

"Yes, perhaps the universe just wanted us to enjoy the day together." Somehow, his tone managed to be wry and hopeful at once.
