The Doctor poked her head out the TARDIS door and nearly had it bitten off by a grouchy-looking, multi-coloured bird with downy feathers and four wings.

"Oops," she said. "Pet shop next door."

After a minute and a little bit of course correction, the TARDIS landed in a bright green alleyway, covered in tiles and linoleum. From there, it was a clear shot across the road to a bright pink shop boasting the best hot drinks in the galaxy. "There," she said, brightly. "A few feet away from the best coffee shop in the 51st century. What did I tell you?"

In response, Ianto crossed his arms and attempted to project the image of a man who hadn't been holding on for dear life just a moment or two before.

"That we'd be visiting the 33rd century, if I remember correctly," he answered, finding his sarcasm if not his stomach.

He was only pretending not to be impressed, of course. He was standing in a time machine.

"-Did I say that?"

She paused and ran over events in her mind.

"No, pretty sure I said 51st. Spit-spot, then - you know, that's a lot of fun to say."

Ianto cracked a smile, but only because it was difficult not to when the Doctor was being ridiculous.

Which was quite a bit of the time, really.

Still, they were in the 51st century, and the 51st century was Jack's home time, and Ianto had to admit that he really was terribly curious. "Coffee," he said, a reminder.

"What?"

She got slightly distracted in memories of Mary Poppins and Susan. Unfortunately, the first time they saw it they thought it was a documentary, and wasn't that a bit of a disaster.

"Coffee," Ianto repeated, a little more slowly this time.

"51st century coffee. I have my doubts."

A little bit of manipulation never hurt anybody, and the Doctor did respond better to a challenge...

"What, doubts?" She eyed him grumpily. "I'll have you know that by the 51st century, the human race developed a really mean cup of coffee."

SO THERE.

Oh look! There's a coffee shop across the street!
